A glossary of online retail
The words you will meet in the admin — explained in a sentence or two.
- Variant
- A specific combination of a product’s options (for example “Blue, M”) with its own SKU, price and stock.
- SKU
- A variant’s unique code, used to find it in the warehouse, in search and in reports.
- Reservation
- Units held for an accepted order. They cannot be sold again until the order is dispatched or cancelled.
- Free units
- On-hand quantity minus reserved — what can be sold.
- Cash on delivery
- Payment on receipt. The courier collects the amount and remits it to the merchant later.
- Waybill
- The courier’s document for a parcel, with a tracking number.
- Smart collection
- A collection whose products are chosen by rules (brand, price, stock) and update themselves.
- Contribution per order
- The order amount minus recorded direct costs. Not accounting profit.
- 308 redirect
- A permanent redirect from an old URL to a new one — keeps visitors and search positions during a migration.
- Two-factor sign-in
- Signing in with a password plus a code from a phone app.
- Role
- A set of permissions for a staff member — for example orders and stock only.
- Draft
- A change customers cannot see yet. It becomes visible once published.
- Theme
- A ready storefront design: layout, colours, font and sections.
- Design Studio
- Targovio’s storefront editor: sections, colours, text, preview and publishing.
- VAT
- Targovio prices exclude VAT; the price with 20% VAT is shown under each.
